Online Safety

At The Cambridge Primary School, we want pupils to enjoy the opportunities technology offers and develop the confidence to use it safely and responsibly. Used well, technology can make learning more accessible, spark creativity and help pupils explore ideas and work together. It also helps them build skills they will need as they grow up in a digital world.
Online safety is part of safeguarding and a shared responsibility across our school community. All staff receive online safety training as part of their safeguarding training, with regular updates. Pupils learn through computing and PSHE. Teaching is adapted to their age and individual needs and helps them recognise harmful or misleading content, unsafe contact, online bullying, inappropriate sharing, scams and emerging risks involving artificial intelligence. We always encourage pupils to tell a trusted adult whenever something online worries them.
We use LGfL SchoolProtect to filter content on school devices and networks, and Senso to monitor digital activity and help identify concerns. Staff also supervise pupils’ use of technology and respond to concerns through our safeguarding procedures. We review the effectiveness of our filtering and monitoring at least once each academic year. No technical system removes every risk, so we combine these safeguards with education while avoiding unnecessary restrictions on learning.
The school is a mobile phone-free environment for pupils throughout the school day. Where a basic phone has been agreed for travel, pupils must hand it in to the school office on arrival and collect it at the end of the day. Our Online Safety & Smartphone Policy explains this arrangement and any individual exceptions.
If you are concerned about a child’s online safety, please contact our safeguarding team. For advice at home, see our parent guides and the Children’s Commissioner’s guide to managing children’s digital lives.
