Information for New Starters-September 2024

We are delighted and excited that you have been able to secure a place for your child at The Cambridge Primary School. We are looking forward to starting our journey together.

The Cambridge Primary School is a special learning environment that fosters the hopes and dreams of all our pupils. School is more than reading, writing and maths; it is working in partnership with families to equip children with skills, attitudes and values necessary to be successful learners in all aspects of their life. The Cambridge Primary School keeps this vision at the core of everything we do.

Transition Dates and Details

Making every child’s first experiences of school a happy one begins before they step foot into the classroom on their first day. We strive to make sure that when children enter the Cambridge, they are full of positive emotions – excitement, confidence and happiness, so they settle quickly into school, learning and developing from day one.

Pupil and Parent Visit to school: Wednesday 3rd July 2024 (a 45-minute time slot will be allocated soon)

The aim of the visit is for the children to spend time playing in their class and the outside area whilst getting to know their peers and the adults in their class. Staff will start to form bonds with the children and get to know their interests and needs. The children will visit in groups of six and should be accompanied by parents or carers. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate siblings.

At this visit, you will receive an information pack explaining school routines in addition to ideas for preparing your child for school.

We ask that your child brings a family photo to the visit.

Parent Information Talk: Wednesday 3rd July 2024 at 6.00pm-7.00pm

This will take place in the school hall this year. We will share information such as uniform, daily routines and the curriculum. You will also receive the PowerPoint by email. Following the presentation, there will be the chance to ask questions and meet with other parents.

Virtual Bedtime Stories: Thursday 4th July, Wednesday 10th and Wednesday 17th July 2024 at 6pm.

These virtual story times will take place via Zoom and are specifically for our new starters. Each week a different teacher will read a story. You will receive the link to Zoom before the first story.

Teddy Bears Family Picnic: Wednesday 17th July 2024 at 3.30pm to 4.30pm

The whole family are invited to picnic in the Reception outside area.

3rd to 6th September 2024 – Home Visits (30 minute time slots signed up for on 3rd July). Your child’s teacher and a learning support assistant will visit your child in their home environment. This is another opportunity for your child to bond with their teacher and gives you the opportunity to ask questions.

9th September 2024 – Reception Pupils’ First Day (From 9am-12.00pm)

Start times are staggered. You will be informed of these on your first visit to school (3rd July).

10th September 2024 – Morning and Lunch (8.35am-1.30pm)

11th September 2024 onwards – Full Day (8.35am-3.10pm)
