Handwriting

Handwriting is a tool of communication in the written form.

Children learn to form letters in the pre cursive style in Reception. During Year 1, they rehearse the pre cursive formation to ensure they start and finish letters in the correct place so the letters sit on the line. When this is secure, the children focus on forming letters that are the correct size in relation to each other with the diagonal and horizontal strokes needed to join them. This usually occurs by the Spring Term in Year 2.
